The stotra module has been completely re-designed from scratch and enhances the functionality and useability of the existing stotra content on the website.
The stotra module has been an integral part of the website since its new release in 2009. Around 2014-15 a new spinoff was created to leverage the power of multimedia since making such changes without breaking the website would be a gigantic feat and upgrading the entire site was very difficult in the short amount of time. This spinoff did not last long due to many issues.
The vision for the stotra archive is To be a comprehensive, authoritative yet easily accessible resource of every stotra composition of the Jagadgurus of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham — from Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya to the present Jagadguru.
The stotra module has been designed from ground up keeping user-friendliness and the vision for this module in perspective.
Current implementation
The stotras are now stored (internally) as 7Bit ascii encoded in the ITrans transliteration format. They use special formatting shortcodes to differentiate shloka, anvaya and tatparya, although none of the stotras currently on the website implement the latter two.
The transliteration module has completely re-written to incorporate native spelling custom of Sanskrit. Most notable of the changes is the on-the-fly transliteration from Devanagari to vernacular scripts like Kannada, Telugu etc. whering Savargiya-Anunasikas are replaced with Anusvaras. Similarly ruleset is defined for each script for various local nuances.
Pure-Tamil is currently disabled as it is more or less counter-productive. Instead tamil with numbered consonants has been implemented.
Bengali, Assamese have also been disabled.
A major change comes in the fonts. Earlier web fonts were more or less unheard of. Today it is a tested and mature technology and most modern websites make use of this feature to enhance the design. All of the language fonts are dynamically loaded, sparing the user of download and installing the fonts separately. This also means that fonts can be updated (changed) and the site will display the updated Typographic design without having the user to yet-again download and install the fonts.
Further the “slugs” are dynamically transliterated from Devanagari to phonetically similar sounding equivalent in English (7 Bit ascii) to preserve pretty looking and unambiguous URLs.
Work so far
With the exception of Tripurasundari Veda Pada Stava, all the 63 stotra compositions of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya have been incorporated into the archive.
Existing content (three Namavalis) migrated and fully integrated into the module.
Work to be done
Proof-read each of the stotras.
Migrate transliteration module to TS (needs brainstorming before work can commence).
